Yercaud is also known as Poor Mans Ooty. The hill station is in the Servarayan hills in the Eastern Ghats near to Salem in Tamil Nadu. The major attractions here are Yercaud Lake , Kiliyur waterfall , Ladies seat view point, Pagoda point, Mont Fort School and Servarayan Temple. The Yercaud Lake has boating facility and has a small park near by. The park has few animals and birds also. Kiliyur waterfall is 4km away from the Yearcaud Lake. The waterfall lies deep in the valley and there is 700m steep descent involved to get to the falls after the road. The Ladies seat view point is a excellent view point with a view of the plains. Near to the view point there is a Government run botanical garden. Ladies seat view point is 3km from the Yercaud Lake. Pagoda point is another view point 4km away from Yercaud Lake. At the view point there are foru pagodas. The Mont Fort school lies 3km away from the Yercaud Lake and is near the bus stand. The school was constructed in European style back in 1917. This Residential School is run by Montfort Brothers. The Servarayan Temple is 4km away from Yercaud Lake. Yercaud has a lot of estates of Coffee and Pears.
September to April is the best time to visit Yercaud.
There are ample amount of hotels available for food and accommodation uphill at Yercaud. One can also choose to stay at Salem.
Route 1: Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Salem - Yercaud.
TNSTC and SETC provides ample amount of bus services to Salem starting from Mysore road KSRTC bus station. KSRTC and Train services are also available to Salem from Bangalore. After reaching Salem there are TNSTC and private buses available to Yercaud. There are only very few bus services to the various destinations in Yercaud. Private cabs and auto can be hired near the Yercaud Lake.
