Velliangiri hills are situated in Nilgiri Biosphere, Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. Velliangiri hills is a series of seven hills. There is a temple at the top of the hills dedicated to Hindu deity Lord Shiva. The temple is considered sacred and lot of people gather at the temple during Mahashivarathri( which comes in Feb-Mar). The Velliangiri hills is an excellent trekking spot. The series of lofty peaks often mesmerizing views. At the base of the hills there is a Yoga center run by Isha Foundation.
Best time to visit Velliangiri is from October to March. During October-December it will be rainy and cold.
Coimbatore is the nearest city with excellant food and lodging options. The Isha foundation at the base of Velliangiri hills provide accommodation facilities for travelers.
Route 1: Bangalore - Krishnagiri - Salem - Tiruppur - Coimbatore - Poondi - Velliangiri
From Bangalore direct KSRTC and IRCTC services are available to Coimbatore. From Coimbatore Gandhipuram Bus stand there are a lot of buses to Poondi which is 40km away from Coimbatore. The trek start point is at Poondi. The trek is 8km long.
