Srinrangapatana served as the Political capital of Mysore kingdom under the leadership of Tipu Sultan. Tipu Sultan chose Srirangapatanam as his capital since it was an island in the Cauvery river. The Cauvery river splits in two and joins back again creating the island town of Srirangapatana. The major attractions here are Cauvery Sangama , Gombaz, Sriranganatha temple and Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary. The remains of Tipu's constructions can be seen throughout the town and its surroundings.
Srirangapatana is an year round tourist destination. Avoiding the monsoons any other time of the year is apt for visiting this place.
Srirangapatana can be easily reached in KSRTC in any bus going to Mysore from Bangalore. To catch the bus back to Bangalore , one has to go to Mysore ( 14km away ). All attractions are within walkable distance from the town.
