Palani is a town in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. Palani is the abode of Hindu deity Lord Murugan. Palani Arulmigu Dandayudhapani Swami Temple is the most visited temple in Tamil Nadu. There are two hills in Palani town namely Shivagiri and Shakthigiri. Shivagiri hill is also called Pazhanimalai and houses the Palani temple. Shakthigiri hill is also called Idumbanmalai.The temple can be reached by 670 steps or by cable car. Apart from the main Murugan temple there are many other temples in Palani. Palani Hills lies on the backdrop of Palani town. Kodaikanal , a famous hill station lies in Palani Hills. There are many large water bodies near Palani. Inside the Palani town lies Vaiyapurikulam, a large pond. Varadhamanadhi Dam and Kudhriyar dam are also near to Palani.

SETC runs direct buses from Bangalore to Palani. Other option is to reach Dindigul by direct SETC, KSRTC or Indian Railways services from Bangalore. From Dindigul(60km away) TNSTC buses, private buses and passenger trains are available to Palani. Private cabs can be hired at Palani itself.
