Palakkad is the district capital of Palakkad district of Kerala. Palakkad is geographically important for the gap in the Western Ghats at the place. To the north of the gap lies the Nilgiri hills and south of the gap is the Anaimalai hills. The main attraction at Palakkad town is the Palakkad fort built by the Mysore ruler Hyder Ali.
