Mysore is the city of palaces. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore under the Wodeyars. The name Mysore came by anglicising Mahishuru which refered to the killing of Mahishashuran by Chamundeshwari Devi according to Hindu mythology. The mightiest attraction of Mysore is the Mysore palace built by Wodeyars during 1912. The other attractions at Mysore are Mysore zoo, Karanji lake , Chamundi hills, St Philominas Church, Brindavan gardens and Krishna Raja Sagar Dam. Srirangapatana the political capital of Tipu Sultan is only 14km from Mysore and has many tourist attractions.
Mysore is an all time tourist spot. Best time to visit Mysore is during Dusserah.

KSRTC runs a chain of A/C and Non A/C buses to Mysore by the name Mysore Mallige. Reservation is not required. Indian Railways also runs trains to Mysore from Bangalore. To reach the local attractions around Mysore there are city buses and autos available. There are many tour operators in Mysore city itself.
