Mullayanagiri is the tallest mountain in Karnataka. Its 1930m high and is situated in Chickamagalur district. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva atop the mountain. A cave and a Nandi statue are at walkable distance from the temple. The mountain belongs to the Bababudangiri hill range, It is a trekkers paradise and often clubbed with Bababudangiri for trekking.
For a memorable trekking experience it would be apt to come after the rains and before summer. September to February is the best season.
Reaching Chickamagalur is easy in the A/C and non-A/C buses run by KSRTC. From Chickamagalur its only 15km away and there are private buses going through the base of the mountain. If you are driving you can take your vehicle about 0.5km close to the summit. The trekking starts from a bus stop called Sarpadhari and its a 4km trek with no forks on the way. The major landmarks on the trek path are a small stream,a Nandi statue and a cave with a small water source inside.
