About Mukurthi National Park

Mukurthi National Park (MNP) lies in Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu. MNP gets its name from a peak named Mukurthi inside the park. MNP is home to a variety of naimlas including Nilgiri Thar, Elephants, birds etc. The park encloses Upper Bhavani Dam, Avalanche Dam and Mukurthi Dam. MNP is contiguous with Silent Valley National Park in Kerala. MNP is a trekkers paradise. The Forest Department have identified various trekkign routes and arranges guided trekking inside MNP. For permissions contact Wildlife Warden, The Nilgiris Ph:0423-2444098. The highest mountains inside the Park are Kollaribetta 2630m, Mukurthi 2550m and Nilgiri 2470m.

Reaching Mukurthi National Park

Mukurthi National Park is 330km from Bangalore.

Route 1: Bangalore - Mysore - Gundelpet - Gudallur - Ooty - MNP.

KSRTC and SETC runs direct buses to Ooty from Bangalore. From Ooty direct buses are not available to MNP. Private cabs are available at Ooty. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is an exciting way to reach Ooty. For this, one has to reach Coimbatore in KSRTC, SETC or Train services available from Bangalore. From Coimbatore TNSTC and private buses are available to Mettupalayam. From Mettupalayam the Nilgiri Mountain train service is available to Ooty. From Ooty (30km away) private cabs have to be hired to reach MNP.
