Dubare Elephant camp is inside the Dubare forest on the banks of Cauvery river. It lies in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. Here the Forest Department trains wild elephants using other tamed elephants. One can observe and learn a lot about elephants here. The elephants used in annual Dusserah procession in Mysore are trained here. Dubare forests is home for a wide variety of animals. There is boating facility available here in the Cauvery river.
Best time to visit the Dubare Elephant Camp is during the post monsoon months of August to January.
Jungle Lodges runs a resort near by Dubare Elephant Camp. Dubare Inn (Ph:0827-6267855) is another resort near by the Elephant camp. Other option for stay is at Kushalnagar town (12km away). Various private home stays are available near by the camp itself.
Ample number of KSRTC buses are available to Kushalnagara from Bangalore. From Kushalnagar (18km away) there are KSRTC and private buses available to Siddapura which stops near the Dubare Elephant camp. Madikeri bound buses from Kushalnagar stops at Guddehosur which is 15km away from the camp. From Guddehosur autos are available to the camp. One has to cross the Cauvery river in a boat to reach the camp from the main road.
