Alappuzha town is the district capital of Alappuzha district of Kerala. Alappuzha is known as the Venice of the East. The major tourist attraction at Alappuzha is the huge network of canals and lagoons. The vast green paddy fields of Alappuzha adjoining to these canals are spectacular. Kuttanad Taluk of Alappuzha district has an elevation of -0.5m to 2m above sea level. Also called Rice bowl of Kerala , Kuttanad is one of the few places in the world where farming is practised below sealevel.
